This article will show you step by step how to insert a YouTube video into your article. At this time, this is the only type of video that can be inserted.
I personally prefer to use the Write Article editor and currently it seems to work better, and it also allows for the addition of images, or polls at the same time. The procedure is the same whether you use Write Article or Post Video.
Let’s get started by opening the article editor.
1.) Over on the top right side of the editor is the Insert Media section. Moving the cursor over the middle Icon the word video will appear and that is the Icon you should click on. A small window will appear that says Add Video, go ahead and click on that.
2.) This Add Video window and text box will open and this is where you will paste the video Address or the video’s Object Code. This is easy, but first we have to get it. Open a second browser window and find the YouTube video you want to insert if you haven’t already done so and we will come back to this window.
3A.) In the second browser window with the YouTube video, up at the top is the web address of the video. In that address bar left click on the address to select it and then right click to open the small menu and select copy from that. You now have copied the Address to your clipboard. Or you can go to 3B to get the Object Code which is what I prefer to use. Ask about it in the comments.
3B.) In the second browser window with the YouTube video, while the video is playing you can move the cursor onto the video screen and right click anywhere to open the small menu shown. This menu is the same whether you are using Internet Explorer or Fire Fox as your browser. In the small menu select and click Copy embed html and this will copy the Object Code to your clipboard so that it is ready to paste. Now we can go back to the NV editor window and finish up.
4.) This is where you will paste the address or object code that you just copied. Place the cursor in the text box, right click to open the small menu, select paste and left click to finish. As soon as you do the editor will automatically search for and confirm the information. If successful you should see the Image in step 5. If by chance there is an error, go back through steps 3A or 3B and try again.
5.) Here is the Edit Video window and when everything works properly you should see an image of your video, some video information and the Caption from the video that the NV editor found. The caption is the only part that you can edit and once you are satisfied with it go ahead and click Save. Remember that you can always come back to the caption and edit it.
6.) At this point, you have been returned to the article editor and there is your video top center. This is the best time to hit the Save button and then the Preview button. A new window will open in the preview mode and you should try to play your video. Most of the time it will work just as it is supposed too. Sometimes however the owner of the video will use the option when uploading to only allow the video to be played at YouTube. If that is the case you will get a message instead of the video playing. Nothing you can do about that, but you can click in the video screen and that will take you to YouTube and play the video. If that is not acceptable to you, then you find another video.
If you check it now, you can save yourself the trouble of writing up a nice little piece or narration only to find out after all that work that the video won’t play. If all goes well with the video test, then finish your article by adding more videos, add pictures, add a poll, or whatever your creative side desires.
Remember that the videos location in the article can be moved up or down, the caption can be edited or the video can be removed by using the small menu that appears when the cursor is placed over the video’s image in the editor.
Below is the finished product and it’s time to enjoy a great tune.
